Draft report on preliminary recommendations for the review of the Taxonomy Climate Delegated Act – EUTurbines input
12 February 2025
EUTurbines is concerned about the plans to further develop the EU Taxonomy. The Platform on Sustainable Finance, which advises the European Commission on the Taxonomy, recently presented a draft report proposing suggesting changes to the Taxonomy Climate Delegated Act. EUTurbines contributed to the call for feedback on the report, rejecting the suggested approach for the greenhouse gas emission thresholds.
Limiting the overall emissions of the energy sector to match the EU’s climate ambitions should not be done by evaluating all single energy-related activities according to a same threshold per energy unit, but must take into account the differing roles in the energy system and the operating hours. Back-up power generation that only operates a few hundred hours but provide reliability to the renewable system should be evaluated differently from generators running and emitting 24/7. EUTurbines suggests to move to an approach with annual emission amounts as threshold and an aggregated system evaluation that takes into account the different roles in the system.
